Vending Machine Power, Voltage and Market Compliance

KioskForce machines are built to the electrical supply of the destination market, so voltage, frequency and plug type are specified at quotation rather than adapted after delivery. Tell us the site’s supply — for example 110V/60Hz for North America, or 220-240V/50Hz for Australia, Europe and most of Asia — and the machine is configured for it. There is no single power figure for the category: refrigerated cabinets and hot-beverage machines draw far more than ambient snack, PPE or tool machines, so the rated draw and the circuit it needs are stated on the spec sheet issued with your quotation and should be checked by the site’s electrician before installation. Required certification marks differ by market — CE in Europe, FCC in the United States, RCM in Australia and New Zealand, and others by country. We confirm which certification and test reports are supplied with your build once the destination market is known, and we do not ask you to accept a claim of compliance without the certificate and the issuing body behind it.

The question that stalls installations

A machine arrives, gets wheeled into position, gets plugged in — and shuts down. Or it runs for a week and then trips a breaker every time the compressor starts. This is one of the most common complaints from buyers of imported machines, and it is almost never a manufacturing fault. It is a supply mismatch that was never specified, on either side, before the machine was built.

Electrical supply is not a detail to settle on arrival. It is a build parameter. This page sets out what you need to specify, why there is no single power figure for a vending machine, and how certification marks actually work by market.


What to specify at quotation

Voltage and frequency by market

Machines are built to the electrical supply of the destination market. The two common cases:

Two cautions. First, quote the supply your site actually has, not the national standard — industrial buildings frequently have three-phase distribution, and generator- or UPS-fed positions behave differently again. Second, a machine built for one supply cannot be made to run on the other with an adapter. An adapter changes the shape of the pins. It does not change the voltage.


Why nobody can quote one power figure

Rated power draw varies considerably by model, and the difference between configurations is much larger than buyers expect.

Two consequences follow:

  1. Size the circuit for the start-up surge, not the average. Compressors and heaters draw hardest at the moment they start. A circuit that copes with the running load and not the surge produces the classic symptom — a machine that works, then trips the breaker at an apparently random moment.
  2. Do not assume a standard outlet is sufficient. Confirm the rated draw for your configuration on the spec sheet issued with your quotation, and give that figure to the electrician who will connect the machine.

We do not publish per-model wattages on this page, because the figure depends on the configuration you order — refrigeration or ambient, screen size, payment hardware, lighting, and any options such as charging ports. The number that matters is the one on your build’s spec sheet.

Refrigerated builds

Refrigerated models are offered with R290 or R134a refrigerant. Which is appropriate for your market and your site is part of the quotation conversation — refrigerant choice interacts with local handling and servicing rules, and with how the machine is transported. Certification marks by market

Required marks differ by market. The mark is a statement that a product meets the requirements of a particular jurisdiction — it is not a global quality grade, and a mark valid in one market says nothing about another.

Tell us the destination market at quotation stage and we confirm which certification and test reports are supplied with your build. We do not list certificates on this page as a marketing claim, because a certificate is specific to a model and a standard — a general claim on a website is exactly the thing you should not accept from any supplier.

Two build details that commonly attract requirements in their own right:

  • The cellular module. Machines ship with 4G connectivity for remote monitoring, which makes them radio equipment as well as electrical equipment in most markets. Ask which reports cover the radio.
  • The payment terminal. Where a third-party terminal is fitted, it carries its own approvals from its own vendor, separate from the machine. See Payment Methods.

How to read a certification claim

Ask for all five, from us or from anyone else:

  1. The certificate, as a document.
  2. The issuing body — the laboratory or notified body that performed the testing.
  3. The model named on it, which should be the model you are buying.
  4. The standard it was tested against.
  5. The market it covers.

ISO 9001 is a different thing

Buyers often ask for “certification” and mean two different things at once. Product marks such as CE, FCC and RCM concern the machine. ISO 9001 concerns the manufacturer’s quality-management system. KioskForce does not currently hold ISO 9001. Quality control is run through in-house processes — multi-stage inspection through fabrication, and full powered-on testing of every completed machine before crating, recorded against its serial number. Where a project genuinely requires ISO-certified manufacturing, that requirement should be raised during scoping so it can be addressed rather than discovered later. What we test before a machine ships

Electrical verification is not a sampling exercise here. Every completed machine is powered on and operated under load — motors, coils, sensors, payment modules, control logic and, on refrigerated builds, the cooling system. Payment modules and touchscreens additionally run on dedicated burn-in benches, and refrigeration performance is measured on a test station for cooling rate and temperature stability. Each machine is identified by serial number and its test results are recorded against it, which is also what makes the build identifiable years later when a part is needed — see spare parts and after-sales support.

What that testing cannot do is verify your site. The machine is proven against the supply it was built for; the installation is proven against the supply it is connected to. Both need to happen.


Site checklist before the machine arrives

Give this to whoever is preparing the position.

  1. Confirm the supply at the outlet — voltage and frequency, measured, not assumed.
  2. Confirm the breaker rating on the circuit serving that outlet, and compare it with the rated draw on the spec sheet.
  3. Confirm the circuit is not shared with other significant loads.
  4. Confirm the plug or termination matches what was quoted.
  5. Confirm the position — floor level, clearance for door swing and for airflow around a refrigerated cabinet, and whether the machine has to be moved on castor wheels after delivery.
  6. Book a licensed electrician for the connection, working to local wiring rules.
  7. Keep the rating plate details with your site records. With the model and serial number, we can tell you exactly what the machine was built for.

If anything in that list does not match, resolve it before the machine is powered up. A supply mismatch discovered by switching on is the expensive way to find out.


What to ask any supplier

Copy these into your enquiry alongside the specification.

  1. What supply voltage and frequency will this machine be built for?
  2. What is the rated power draw of the configuration you have quoted, and what is the start-up surge?
  3. Will it be supplied with a plug for my market, or prepared for hard-wiring?
  4. Which certification marks will be supplied for my destination market, and who is the issuing body?
  5. Which model is named on the certificate?
  6. Does the certification cover the cellular module and the payment device, or only the machine?
  7. What is on the rating plate, and where is it fitted?
  8. If my site’s supply turns out to be different from the country norm, can the build be changed, and by when?
