Wall-Mounted Vape Vending Machines: Size, Capacity and Fit

A wall-mounted vape vending machine is a shallow cabinet, typically around 400–600 mm wide, 200–350 mm deep and 600–900 mm high, that hangs on a bar or club wall and dispenses packed vape products from 6 to 30 or more selections. Depth is the constraint that matters: it decides how many packs sit behind each selection and whether a card terminal and an age-check device fit inside. The age check can be a staff release, a pre-verified membership, verification on the customer’s phone, or an ID document scan, and each takes a different amount of space. Where it may stand is set by law, not by the cabinet: in the US only in venues where nobody under 21 is present or permitted at any time, in the UK not at all for consumers from 29 October 2026, and in Australia not outside pharmacies.

A wall-mounted vape vending machine is a shallow cabinet that hangs on a wall in an adult-only venue and dispenses packed vape products from a small number of selections. It suits bars, clubs and casinos because it takes no floor space. Its constraint is depth: a cabinet roughly 200–350 mm deep has to hold the stock, the payment terminal and whatever performs the age check. And the wall it hangs on has to be one where the law allows vape vending at all. This page covers sizes, capacity arithmetic, how the age check fits, mounting, accessibility and placement.

Quick answer

  • Size: typical wall-mount cabinets run about 400–600 mm wide, 200–350 mm deep and 600–900 mm high, with 6 to 30 or more selections.
  • Capacity is selections multiplied by packs per selection, and packs per selection is set by cabinet depth and your pack size. Measure the pack first.
  • Age check: staff release, pre-verified membership or verification on the customer’s phone add little depth. An ID document reader at the machine needs designed-in space and usually a verification service.
  • Legality: in the US, only in venues where nobody under 21 is present or permitted at any time. In the UK, consumer vape vending is an offence from 29 October 2026. In Australia, vapes are pharmacy-only.
  • Price: our compact wall-mount model is indicatively USD 800–1,500 before the age-check integration, freight and installation.

What a wall-mounted vape vending machine is

It is a purpose-designed wall cabinet, not a shortened floor-standing machine. Products sit on motor-driven coils behind a locked front. A vend pushes one pack into a secure delivery bin, so the customer never has access to the stock. That matters more for a restricted product than for any other: if the stock can be reached without passing the check, the check is decoration.

On our compact wall-mount platform the standard building blocks are:

Feature Typical options
Cabinet Built to specification; typical units about 400–600 mm (W) × 200–350 mm (D) × 600–900 mm (H)
Selections 6 to 30 or more coil selections, coil pitch configurable per selection
Screen Optional 7-inch to 32-inch Android touchscreen, or screen-free with a QR code
Payment QR code, SMS code release, RFID or PIN, or an MDB cashless terminal for contactless cards
Connectivity 4G cellular or Wi-Fi, real-time stock levels and low-stock alerts
Mounting Brick or drywall via a backplate, or an optional floor stand
Lighting Internal LED illumination, optional external signage panel

A “small vape vending machine” can also mean a countertop unit. In a bar a countertop machine sits within reach of staff, which helps with supervision, but it takes bar space and is easier to tamper with or remove. A wall unit is fixed, and visible from across the room.

Where a wall-mounted vape machine may stand

This is a summary for planning, not legal advice. Rules change; confirm with the regulator where the machine will stand. Facts below are as of October 2026.

Jurisdiction Rule What it means for a wall unit
US (federal) 21 CFR 1140.14(b)(3): no vending of covered tobacco products, which include e-cigarettes, “except in facilities where the retailer ensures that no person younger than 21 years of age is present, or permitted to enter, at any time” Strictly 21-and-over venues. Not a mixed-age restaurant-bar, and not a venue that runs 18+ nights
California Business and Professions Code 22960: tobacco product vending allowed only in premises with an on-sale public premises alcohol licence, at least 15 feet inside the entrance; local bans take precedence The wall you choose has to be 15 feet inside the door, in a city that has not banned it
United Kingdom Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026: from 29 October 2026, an offence to have a machine dispensing vapes, nicotine products or tobacco to customers; machines dispensing only to staff are outside the ban, and England and Wales exempt vape machines in adult mental health inpatient areas A wall unit can serve as secure, staff-operated storage, not as a customer-facing machine
Germany Youth Protection Act (JuSchG) section 10: no public vending of nicotine products, including e-cigarettes, unless the machine is inaccessible to minors or has technical safeguards Possible with a technical age safeguard
Australia Vapes cannot be supplied through any non-pharmacy retail store (since 1 July 2024) Not an option outside the pharmacy model

Notice that in the US the rule turns on the venue, not the machine. A wall unit with an excellent ID reader does not make vape vending lawful under the federal rule in a venue that lets under-21s in. The machine’s age check is a second layer on top of the venue’s door check, and some state or local rules or licence conditions may require it.

How many packs it holds

Capacity is arithmetic, and it is worth doing before choosing a cabinet. The figures below are illustrative: the usable coil length is assumed at 250 mm, and “space per pack” is the front-to-back room each pack takes on the coil, including the coil’s own clearance.

Space per pack (as loaded) Packs per selection 12 selections 24 selections
25 mm ~10 ~120 ~240
30 mm ~8 ~96 ~192
45 mm ~5 ~60 ~120
60 mm ~4 ~48 ~96

How to use the table:

  • Measure the pack as you will load it, in its retail box, not the device inside it. A thin pod pack and a boxed disposable-style device differ a lot.
  • Decide the orientation. A pack loaded on its thin edge takes less coil length, but it has to stand stably and drop cleanly.
  • Mixed sizes are normal. Coil pitch is set per selection, so a thin pod pack and a thicker device box can share one cabinet.
  • Work back from restocking. If a selection sells 20 packs on a Saturday and holds 8, someone restocks mid-shift or customers find it empty. A busy venue may need two selections of its best seller, or a deeper cabinet.

The planogram configurator lets you lay out selections before asking for a quotation; the final capacity is stated on the quotation from your measured packs.

How the age check fits a shallow cabinet

Each verification approach on the age-verified vending hub has a different footprint inside a wall cabinet.

Age check What sits in or on the cabinet Depth cost Notes for a bar wall
Staff release A release controller; staff authorise from an attendant interface after checking ID in person Minimal Natural fit where bar staff are already checking ID. The machine is stock security plus a record
Pre-verified membership RFID reader or QR scan of a membership credential Small Works for members’ clubs and casinos with enrolment at the door
Verification on the customer’s phone Nothing extra; the customer arrives with a code or QR None Suits screen-free cabinets. The age decision belongs to the verifying service
ID document reader at the machine A document reader, usually backed by a verification service Largest Needs designed-in mounting, cabling and a reachable service. Reading a barcode is not the same as authenticating the document

Two design consequences follow:

  • Choose the check before the cabinet. Like a card terminal, an ID reader’s body, cable run and service access must be designed into a 200–350 mm cabinet, not added afterwards.
  • Decide what happens when the check cannot be made. Where the age decision is made by an external service, an outage should refuse the vend. On our machines that is the default: the machine needs its connection to dispense at all.

Staff release has one more advantage in the UK. The GOV.UK guidance exempts machines that dispense to a staff member only, not directly to the customer. Whether a particular staff-release design meets that exemption is a question for your local trading standards service, not for us.

Payment in a shallow cabinet

The options are the same as on any wall-mount machine, with the depth constraint deciding what fits.

  • MDB cashless terminal for contactless cards and phone wallets: the most common choice. Its body, mounting and, on cellular devices, antenna must be designed in.
  • QR code payment on the customer’s phone: no reader at all.
  • Cash: possible, but a note acceptor and cash box compete directly with product depth, and cash in an unattended restricted-product machine is an added security problem.

Item-level sales data comes from the machine’s own order record, not from the card terminal, so you can see which product sold on a card transaction. See payments.

Mounting and site checks

We supply engineering drawings for a generic mounting backplate that suits both brick and drywall. Installation is optional and is carried out locally by your installer or contractor or, in some regions, by a local distributor. The loaded weight is on the specification issued with your quotation; take that figure to the installer.

Before drawings are issued, confirm at each wall:

  1. Substrate: brick, block or stud wall, and what runs behind the fixing points.
  2. Power within reach, on the local supply.
  3. Network signal at the wall itself. Signal behind a bar or in a basement club is often weaker than at the door.
  4. Clearance for the front to open fully for restocking.
  5. Sightline from staff. In an adult-only venue, a machine that staff can see is harder to misuse.
  6. Not in an all-ages zone. If parts of the venue admit under-21s at any time, the machine does not belong there under the US federal rule.

Accessibility: height and protrusion

In the US, the 2010 ADA Standards apply to vending machines in public accommodations. Section 228.1 requires at least one of each type of vending machine provided to comply with section 309, which places operable parts within the reach ranges of section 308 (unobstructed forward or side reach between 15 and 48 inches above the floor) and limits operating force to 5 pounds.

The point most wall installations miss is section 307.2: objects whose leading edge is more than 27 inches and not more than 80 inches above the floor may protrude no more than 4 inches (100 mm) into a circulation path. A 200–350 mm deep cabinet protrudes about 8 to 14 inches. Common answers are a recess or alcove outside the circulation path, or the optional floor stand so the unit reaches the floor. You specify the height and position; we build to it. We do not certify compliance with the ADA or any other access standard.

What to specify if you are buying one

  • The rule and the venue. Jurisdiction, venue type, whether under-21s are ever admitted, and the age check your regulator or licence accepts. Start from the age-verified vending hub.
  • Pack dimensions and the range. Measured packs as loaded and the number of distinct products.
  • Expected sales per selection on your busiest night, so capacity is set by restock intervals.
  • Payment method and, for a card terminal, the make and model. See payments.
  • Screen or no screen. A screen helps with on-screen notices and prompts; a screen-free cabinet is cheaper and works with phone-based verification.
  • Budget. The compact wall-mount model is indicatively USD 800–1,500 per unit; age-check integration, freight, duty and installation are extra. See vending machine cost and the wall-mount buyer’s guide.

KioskForce designs hardware and software in-house and builds each cabinet to order. We sell direct and, in some regions, through local distributors. We build to the compliance requirement you state; we do not certify that a machine or a venue complies with any tobacco, vaping or age-restriction law. Support is by email; where a local distributor supplied the machine, it handles warranty and service.

Where a wall-mounted vape machine is the wrong answer

  • Where vape vending is not lawful: the UK from 29 October 2026 (except staff-only dispensing), Australia, and any US venue that admits under-21s.
  • High volume with a wide range. A busy venue selling dozens of products may outgrow a wall cabinet. A floor-standing machine holds more per selection and costs less per service visit.
  • Walls that cannot take it: glazing, partitions, heritage fabric, or a wall dense with services. The floor stand exists for these.
  • Where the only acceptable check is a document scan and the venue has poor connectivity. If the verification service is often unreachable, the machine will often refuse. Fix the signal first or choose staff release.

Frequently asked questions

How big is a wall-mounted vape vending machine?

Typical wall-mount units run in the region of 400 to 600 mm wide, 200 to 350 mm deep and 600 to 900 mm high, with 6 to 30 or more coil selections. KioskForce builds each one to the buyer’s specification rather than from a fixed catalogue size, because the right depth and number of selections depend on the packs being sold and how often someone can restock. A floor-standing machine holds far more, but needs floor space that most bars and clubs cannot give up.

How many vapes does a small wall vending machine hold?

Multiply the number of selections by the packs that fit behind each one. Packs per selection is roughly the usable coil length divided by the space each pack takes as loaded. On illustrative figures, 250 mm of usable length and 30 mm per pack gives about 8 packs per selection, so 12 selections hold about 96 packs and 24 selections about 190. Measure your actual packs in their retail packaging; capacity is engineered from those dimensions and stated on the quotation.

Can a wall-mounted vending machine check ID?

Yes, but the check has to be designed into the cabinet, because depth is limited. The options are staff release, where a bartender checks ID and authorises the vend; a pre-verified membership card or QR code; verification on the customer’s phone before they reach the machine; or an ID document reader at the machine. The first three add little or no depth. A document reader needs mounting space and usually a verification service behind it. Which check is acceptable is decided by your regulator, not by the machine.

It depends on where the bar is. Under US federal rules, e-cigarettes may be sold from a vending machine only in facilities where no person under 21 is present or permitted to enter at any time, and states and cities can be stricter: California limits tobacco product vending to on-sale licensed premises with the machine at least 15 feet inside the entrance. In the UK, consumer vape vending machines become an offence from 29 October 2026. In Australia vapes can only be supplied through pharmacies. Confirm the rule locally before buying.

How is a wall vending machine mounted?

On a mounting backplate. KioskForce supplies engineering drawings for the backplate with the machine, and the mounting method is kept generic so it suits both brick and drywall. Installation is optional and carried out locally by your own installer or contractor, or in some regions by a local distributor. The installer confirms the substrate, what is behind the fixing points, the fixings and the height. The loaded weight is stated on the specification issued with your quotation. An optional floor stand exists for walls that cannot take the load.

Does a wall-mounted vending machine need to meet ADA rules?

In the US, the 2010 ADA Standards require at least one of each type of vending machine provided to have operable parts within the reach ranges of section 308, generally between 15 and 48 inches above the floor, operable with one hand and no more than 5 pounds of force. Section 307.2 also limits wall-mounted objects whose leading edge is between 27 and 80 inches above the floor to 4 inches of protrusion into a circulation path, which a 200 to 350 mm deep cabinet exceeds. You specify the height and placement; we build to it, but we do not certify accessibility compliance.

How much does a wall-mounted vape vending machine cost?

KioskForce’s compact wall-mount model has an indicative price of USD 800 to 1,500 per unit, set by the number of selections, the screen, the payment hardware and the exterior finish. An ID document reader, a verification-service integration or a staff-release interface is specified and quoted on top. Freight, import duty and local installation are not included. Modified standard models take 4 to 6 weeks to build, and full custom designs 8 to 12 weeks.
